And, of course, these days so many people work from home so you will want to see how you can incorporate a separate area for working. So what does this mean for you, selling your home?

Ok, now step back, grab your camera and take a picture from the doorway. If you can review it in another room, and if possible on a computer. Yup, that’s the view others will have of your space. Does it look welcoming? Is it a formal room that you only go into when you have company? If that’s the case, is the furniture dated and stiff? Can you re-arrange the furniture so it’s less stuffy? Try taking the rug out to see if that helps. Does removing extra furniture help? Sometimes placing furniture on an angle helps. Try pulling some furniture away from the way to create a more conversational space.

If the opposite is true and your family never leaves the space you’ll likely need to re-arrange the furniture so it’s more presentable. Again, check the amount of furniture.

Can you stage your living room yourself?

We often have too many items in our living rooms. You’ll want buyers to see the space and imagine their furniture in there so too much of yours is a lot for them to imagine away! Pull all the everyday “stuff” out of the room and see if it looks better now. Remotes, gaming equipment, backpacks, food packages, and the stuff we have is visual clutter.

Take a look at the photos you’ve taken. Is this a home you’d like to visit? If not, make some changes. They don’t have to be massive to make a difference. Move some items around, remove some altogether, re-arrange the furniture a bit, clean, and it will feel different.
