Basement finished for a movie lover
Finished basement – list of wants & must have’s
This project was a finished basement for a movie lover. The basement of this townhouse was unfinished and cold. It was spacious enough and the client knew exactly what he wanted – a cozy space to watch movies, room for a wine collection, bar fridge, space for his sculptures and glass pieces. He wanted it to be elegant as well as cozy so we layered in the elegance with engineered hardwood floors and floor to ceiling drapes.
The client also wanted to be able to display some of his sculpture collection. Engineered hardwood floors, custom wine and sculpture storage, as well as an electric fireplace make this space an inviting retreat for this movie buff. Contemporary floor to ceiling drapes make the space feel larger and more unified.
Built in electric fireplace
In order to hide the electrical and provide some ventilation space for this built in fireplace we added in a feature bump out wall. It’s only about 6 inches deep but that’s enough space for the fireplace to breathe and provide the focal point to the the space.
Unique wine storage
The bar area has space for a bar fridge with a shelf for bottles over it. Custom wine storage and a niche with spotlights and glass shelves provide space for displaying treasured items. This bump out was in line with the entrance to the room. The builders had finished off the space to the bottom of the stairs and framed in the entrance. We took advantage of the bump out and used it to create this unique wine storage.
